Zero Tolerance Against Ragging โ€” Safe, Secure, and Supportive Campus Environment

Ragging is defined as any disorderly conduct, whether by words spoken or written or by an act, has the effect of teasing, treating, or handling with rudeness a fresher or a junior student. Indulging in a rowdy or undisciplined activity that causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or junior student. Asking the students to do any act or perform something that such students will not do in the ordinary course and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of a fresher or junior student. This can lead to adverse effects such as depression, anxiety, and sometimes even suicide.

Committee Objectives

Root Out Ragging

To root out ragging in all its forms from the college campus, by prohibiting it by law, preventing its occurrence and punishing those who indulge in ragging.

Counsel Senior Students

To counsel senior students to refrain from instigating students against junior students.

Constant Vigilance

To keep an alert eye to avoid any ragging incidence and walk around the campus to ensure that no such activity is taking place.

Systematic Inquiry

To conduct a systematic inquiry into matters and submit reports to higher authorities for concerned action.

Student Involvement

The faculty members can take the help of student members as and when required for prohibition of ragging.

Regular Meetings

Anti-Ragging Committee meetings will be held twice in each semester.

Punishable Acts of Ragging

  • Abetment to ragging
  • Criminal conspiracy to rag
  • Unlawful assembly and rioting while ragging
  • Public nuisance created during ragging
  • Violation of decency and morals through ragging
  • Injury to body, causing hurt or grievous hurt
  • Wrongful restraint and confinement
  • Use of criminal force & assault
  • Sexual offences or unnatural offences
  • Extortion & Criminal trespass
  • Offences against property
  • Criminal intimidation
  • Physical or psychological humiliation

Measures for Prohibition of Ragging

  • Total ban on ragging in campus including departments, sports, canteen, etc.
  • Strict action against those found guilty of ragging and/or abetting ragging.
  • Student handbook contains instructions against ragging.
  • Undertaking from candidates and parents/guardians regarding prohibition and consequences of ragging.

Awardable Punishments at College Level

Depending upon the nature and gravity of the offence as established by the Anti-Ragging Committee, the possible punishments include:

Suspension from attending classes Cancellation of admission Rustication from institution Withholding of scholarships Debarment from examinations Expulsion from hostel
